Tim Bruni. Coach Tim Bruni and his brother have been involved as players, referees, coaches, and administrators within SMSC since its inception in 1978. They actually played on the first select (Division 1) team at SMSC in 1982 after winning a state championship. They both also played on the first varsity team Gulfport High School had during the early beginnings of school soccer on the Coast (Coach Tim was actually in 8th grade then). Coach Tim was selected as Most Valuable Player of the varsity team as well as Captain and All-South. He was also a 5-year letterman. He went on to play on several Division 1 teams and within the ODP program. He was the first player from the State of Mississippi to be selected to the Region 3 ODP team. He played collegiately at Hartwick University, then a national top 10 Division 1 program, and at Millsaps College. He was selected as All-Conference during his tenure at Millsaps. He has coached teams at all levels for over 15 years. In the past 6 years he has had teams win three state championships and one state finalist. He currently holds a National C license with the United States Soccer Federation.
Russ Carothers. Coach Carothers began playing soccer in 1978 in the inaugural season of South Mississippi Soccer Club where he continued to play for different recreational, premier and select teams. He was part of several state championship teams over the course of his 12 years including playing as a 4-year varsity player for Gulfport High School soccer. During college Russ played for several intramural leagues. After graduating he played in an indoor soccer league in Charlotte, NC. Upon returning to Gulfport, Russ got his Grade 8 referee certification and refereed with the local high school soccer association for 4 years. He has successfully coached 5 seasons of youth soccer at SMSC and is currently the coach of the FC UNITED U11 Girls Team, Quickshots and the FC UNITED U9 Boys Team, Arsenal. He also serves on the SMSC Board of Directors. He holds a USSA D Coaching License and a National Youth License.
Lee Mayet. Coach Mayet played soccer at Nicholls State University. He has successfully coached recreational soccer for 7 years at SMSC with many top finishes in tournaments. In addition, he has coached 3v3 teams and has been coaching Division II All Star teams at SMSC for two years. Lee is currently the coach for the U12 Boys All Star team. He holds a National E license
Michelle Jeanfreau. Coach Jeanfreau grew up playing soccer in the suburbs of Chicago, IL and has been involved in soccer since the young age of 5. Her career play began at the recreational level and she began playing select and travel soccer during her teen years. She played on the Olympic Development team throughout her High School years and helped The St. Charles High school Soccer Team win the State Championship in 1992. While in High School she was awarded All-Region honors her sophomore through senior years. She continued to play after high school for the NCAA Division 1 Wright State Raider’s in Dayton Ohio, where she played on a full scholarship. Michelle had a successful career there and was awarded, 2nd team All- Conference (1994), All- Ohio team (1994, 1995), MVP (1994, 1995) and 1st team All- Conference (1995). Michelle was also a 2 year captain for her team and earned the captains award (1995). Michelle was called to try out for the National team in 1996 and became a national pool player. She also played for the Columbus Ziggx in the women’s professional soccer league. Michelle holds her National C license and has coached for Machnik soccer camps (now the No. 1 soccer camp). She has been coaching at SMSC for 3 years and is coaching the Division II Primary Allstar U8 boys.
